“Tech” A Tech class will break down the technical maneuvers piece by piece, with special attention to proper form, technique, muscle engagement, adaptations and variations. If pole and aerial dance are a language, think of tech as learning your basic vocabulary words and grammar.
“Flow” A Flow class will take maneuvers and create transitions between them, creating a sequence of maneuvers that can be danced through. The goal is to move through the sequence to music, but not to necessarily hit all the same marks as everyone else, moving at your own pace. The music could change, and you could still run through your flow! There may even be opportunities to customize and create your own personal movement variations, and even improv a little when you’re comfortable. If aerial and pole dancer a language, think of Flow as learning conversational phrases.
“Choreography” Moving on from Flow, Choreography aims to set a sequence to music with the goal of hitting precise marks in sync with your peers. Variations/adaptations are less common, timing of movements becomes very specific with practice, with the goal of performing a finished routine, possibly in a group. The dance routine fits precisely with a specific musical number. If aerial and pole dance is a language, Choreography is a stage-play.
